About me:

I’ve been a professional writer, editor, and photographer since 1993. Before that, I always remember documenting life around me, pretty much from the time I could write.
For news organizations, I have enthusiastically covered both
5-year-olds and well-known celebrities. I have written about hurricanes, presidential visits, concerts, and sporting events.
I have edited newspapers, novels, nonfiction books, short stories, websites, résumés, menus, master’s theses, and PTA programs.
As a military brat, a 30-year military spouse, and a former editor at a newspaper serving the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejune, I am adept at deciphering the mysterious language of the military. I know the difference between ordnance and ordinance, medic and corpsman, and PCS and TDY.
I have worked on copy desks, developed entire new sections, designed layouts for features and news, written personal columns, spoken to civic groups, volunteered in classrooms, hired interns and staff members, taught newbies to write, helped veterans self-edit, generated story idea after story idea, answered phones, written obituaries, taken my own photographs, created annual contests, interviewed CEOs and kindergartners, carefully proofread wedding announcements, and delicately dealt with Southern mothers of cotillion debutantes.
